GUWAHATI, DEC 27: At least 60 villages were affected due to massive hailstorm, which was hit in upper Assam Dibrugarh on Tuesday morning.
For the first time, Dibrugarh has witnessed such massive hailstorm. The people have comes out from their houses to enjoy the weather but on the other side due to hailstorm house were damaged in many areas of Dibrugarh district.
Talking to the correspondent, Assam State Disaster Management Authority(ASDMA), Dibrugarh project officer, Deepjyoti Hatikakoti said, “The hailstorm has affected at least 60 numbers of villages in Dibrugarh district.
301 households of 37 villages in Moran Revenue circle was affected. 202 households of 21 villages of Tingkhang revenue circle was affected. One government LP school under Dibrugarh East revenue circle was affected. Nagachapari LP School in Lahowal area was badly damaged. In Dibrugarh west revenue circle 2 villages 5 households of Lekai sub center was affected.”

The temperature dropped even further, with the Indian Meteorological Department forecasting more rain in northeastern states.
Dibrugarh and Charaideo districts witnessed a sharp drop in temperature following the hailstorm. The maximum temperature in the two districts dropped to 11 degree Celcius in the morning on Tuesday.
“For the first time, we have witnessed such massive hailstorm in Moran. Small children were seen collecting hail and enjoying in the streets of Moran. People comes out from their houses in Moran to enjoy the hailstorm,” said a Amit Dey, a resident of Moran.
On the other hand, the hailstorm damaged crops in Moran and its nearby areas.
“For last couple of days, the temperatures in upper Assam has been in dips due to severe cold. We have not witnessed rain in the month of December earlier. Nowadays, the weather has changed due to the impact of climate change,” he said.
