While the results are still being counted, the BJP declares a resounding victory in Gujarat, with the Congress and the AAP capturing the second and third spots in the state, respectively. Gujarat is given its historic victory by Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
On Thursday, the BJP claimed a historic victory in Gujarat, even breaking the previous record set in 2002 when the party, then led by chief minister Narendra Modi, won 127 seats. Alpesh Thakor and Bhupendra Patel, the current chief minister, are leading from their districts. The Aam Aadmi Party fell to third place when Congress was defeated in the early trends, despite maintaining its second place. AAP hopes to be recognised as a national party despite only holding a slight advantage in eight seats.
