Guwahati: After waiting for four long years, Feroz Leheri(26), a resident of Nepal found his missing mother in Assam’s jail. His mother Jannat Khatun was missing since 2018 from Nepal’s Salahi district was unfortunately lodged in the transit camp of Assam’s Silchar jail for illegally entering India.
Now, the wait is over for Feroz because very soon his mother will be handed over to him and he can take her to Nepal.
Meanwhile, the Nepal Consulate in Kolkata sent a letter to the Superintendent of Central Jail Silchar, asking Khatun, a resident of Laxmimore in Salahi district of Nepal, to be released and hand over the elderly woman to her son Firoz Leheri.
Superitendent of Silchar Central Jail Jagadish Deka said Khatun has already completed her sentence term and is receiving treatment at hospital.
According to reports, Jannat Khatun was arrested in 2018 for illegally entering India. She was lodged in Silchar Central Jail on November 28 and spent two years in prison and another two years languishing in detention centre.
“My mother had a head injury in 2018. She suffered from mental instability after that, and she went missing from home one day. We looked everywhere but couldn’t find her. We also filed a missing person complaint at the Haripur police station, which is located in our neighborhood. However, we were unable to locate her “Feroz said.
On the other hand, Assam’s Citizen’ Rights Preservation Committee (CRPC) state General Secretary Bidhayak Das Purkasyastha said Khatun is mentally disabled and likely a victim of human trafficking racket.
