Guwahati: In a crackdown against Popular Front of India (PFI), Assam police on Monday arrested two members of the outfit from Assam’s Dhubri district.
The duo has been identified as Saiful Islam of Dhubri and Shafiqul Islam of Gauripur.
According to police, they were absconding since September last year.
“They have come to Assam from a neighbouring state. We have received inputs from our source regarding their presence in the area and held both of them,” said a police official.
He said that the duo was teaching in a madrasa named Al-Jamiatul Asia Lil Banat Panbari of Dhubri.
Meanwhile, Assam police have started a massive crackdown against PFI members in the state.
“So far many PFI leaders were arrested from different places of the state and they were lodged in jails. We will continue the operation against the radical outfit,” police official said.
