Assam: 3 elephants killed due to electrocution in Rani

Guwahati: In a tragic incident, three wild elephants were killed to electrocution after they came in contact with an electric line in the Rani area on the outskirts of Guwahati.

The incident occurred between 3.30 to 4 a.m. on Friday morning.

According to reports, the body of elephants was found by locals near the Panichanda area in Rani Tea Estate in the Kamrup rural district.

The area falls under the supervision of the Rani Forest Division.

According to locals, the herd of elephants come down to the village area in search of food but the elephants came in contact with live electric wire.

It may be mentioned that electric lines have been one of the major causes of elephant deaths in Assam.

“One mother elephnat and two calves were trying to bring down a betel nut tree when it came in contcat with high voltage electric line. The elephnats died due to electrocution. We have confirmed it through post mortem,” said an forest official.

Every year elephnats died due to electrocution in Assam.
