Assam: 90 kgs of Yaba tablets worth Rs 40 crore seized in Karimganj, 1 arrested

Guwahati: In a major crackdown against drug, Assam police seized nearly 90 kgs of Yaba tablets in Assam’s Karimganj district on Tuesday. It was the biggest drug seizure in the state.

According to reports, a team of Karimganj police intercepted one Alto car bearing registration no ( AS-10A-6487) at Nischintapur in Bagargul and seized quantity of drugs from the vehicle.

Police said a drug peddler identified as Hafiz Uddin was arrested in connection with the seizure.

Speaking to media persons, Karimganj superitendent of police Padmanav Baruah said, “Its a proud moment for us because it was the biggest drug seizure in the state till date. Nearly, 90 kgs of Yaba tablets market value around Rs 40 crore was seized by vigilant home guards of Assam police from a vehicle in Karimganj. Due to their alertness, we have successfully seized the huge quantity of drugs,”.

“The driver of the vehicle Hafiz Uddin tried to lured the home guards by paying a bribe of Rs 20 lakh but they refused to take the bribe and held him. After the intervention of Village Defense party(VDP), the drug peddler was arrested. We have registered a case under NDPS Act and further investigation has been going on,” said Padmanav Baruah.

The Assam police have started a massive crackdown against drugs and so far huge quantity of contraband drugs were seized.
