DIBRUGARH, AUG 28: The Brahmaputra river crosses the danger level in Dibrugarh for the first time in this year due to the incessant rain in upper stream areas of Arunachal Pradesh for past couple of days.
A person identified as Birsa Munda was washed away due to the heavy current of Brahmaputra river in Nagaguli area in Dibrugarh.
The river is flowing at 105.83 metre against the danger level of 105.70 metre as per the Water resource department.
Due to the incessant rain in Arunachal Pradesh and upper stream areas the water level of Brahmaputra has rises suddenly from Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Dibrugarh district administration has instructed the people to vacate the place those who are living at low laying areas.
According to ASDMA, 13425 population in three revenue circles of Dibrugarh were affected due to the rising level of water.
“A total of 15 villages were affected so far in Dibrugarh. 396 hectare of crop land were affected due to the rising level of water. 5831 male and 4743 female were affected due to the incessant rain,” said an official of ASDMA.
He said, “Everything was fine but suddenly the water level of Brahmaputra on Sunday rises and crossed the danger level mark. The low laying areas were flooded due the rising level of water. We have urged the people those who are living in the low laying areas to vacate the place for their safety”.
“Relief materials and cattle foods are on the way and very soon reached the affected families,” he said.
As per Water Resource Department, though the water level is expected to rise, but the forecast level is much within control and all embankments are stable.
The highest flood lever of River Brahmaputra in Dibrugarh was 106.48Mtrs. recorded on 03.09.1998.
On the other hand, most parts of Dibrugarh town were waterlogged due to the one hour rain in the town last Sunday.
“An artificial flood like situation has emerged in Dibrugarh after one hours of rain. Most of the wards comes under water due to the rain. The most of the drains were clogged due to the plastic and other materials. The Dibrugarh Municipal Board has not done any work to clear the clogged drain. The drainage system was pathetic in Dibrugarh town and this is one of the major reason of waterlogging in Dibrugarh town,” said Aswani Dutta, resident of Dibrugarh.
He said, “Every year such situation emerged in Dibrugarh and we have to faced the problem. The Dibrugarh Municipal Board and the District administration should take immediate measures to solve the problem,”.
