Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday warned the Congress of police action if the party fails to address the allegations levelled by Angkita Dutta.
Talking to media persons, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The manner in which the Congress is handling the matter is unfortunate. The Assam Congress needs to resolve this issue soon. I still believe that it is their internal matter,”.
“Akgkita Dutta is a Assam’s girl but how APCC has been tackling the issue is very unfortunate. They are taking the sides of Srinivas BV. I feel good if Assam Congress would stand for Angkita Dutta and raised their voice in support of her,” Sarma stated.
He further said, “However, if they fail to address the matter, police action will be initiated. The National Comission of Women(NCW) has already written to the DGP,”.
The Assam police on Friday registered a case filed by Assam youth Congress (AYC) chief Angkita Dutta against the national president of the Indian Youth Congress Srinivas BV at Dispur police station.
Dutta filed the complaint at the Dispur police station in Guwahati on Wednesday alleging that Srinivas has been ”harassing and torturing her for the last six months by making sexist comments, using slang words and also threatening her with dire consequences if she keeps complaining against him to the senior party office bearers”.
The Indian Youth Congress accused Dutta of “publicly maligning and defaming” Srinivas BV for political reasons.
