GUWAHATI, FEB 21: A Doctor was assaulted by two youths at his residence in upper Assam Dibrugarh on Monday following a Facebook comment.
The injured doctor has been identified as Geetartha Saikia of Boiragimoth, Dibrugarh. Dr Geetartha has been doing his internship at a hospital in Majuli.
Dr Geetartha is also a singer and recently he has released a song in YouTube.
Meanwhile, Geetartha’s family members has filed an FIR at Gabarupathar police outpost.
The injured doctor was undergoing treatment at Dibrugarh hospital.
Geetartha is the son of Kiran Saikia and Ruma Saikia of Boiragimoth, Dibrugarh.
Talking to media persons, Kiran Saikia, father of Geetartha said, “Yesterday, two youths came to our house and asking for Geetartha. I asked them why u need Geetartha, one of them told me that they were the friend of Geetartha. I asked them to come inside but they refused. In the meantime, Geetartha came out from his house to meet them and they started to assaulting him without any reason. They brutally assaulted him and he got senseless but still they didn’t stop. When I intervent they fled away in a car,”.
“My son sustained injuries on head, ear and other parts of his body. He is undergoing treatment in hospital. We request the police to arrest the person immediately,” Kiran Saikia said.
One of the youth, who assaulted Geetartha has been identified as Debraj Borgohain.
Dibrugarh Additional superintendent of police (HQ) Bitul Chetia said, “Geetartha was assaulted by the another youth due to some Facebook post. A case was registered at Gabarupathar police outpost and we are investigating the matter. Till now, no arrest has been made in connection with the case,”.
