Assam: DU Anti Ragging Committee applied for permission at CJM court for hearing of five students inside jail

GUWAHATI, DEC 3:  The Dibrugarh University Anti Ragging Committee has applied for permission at CJM Court to allow two members for taking the hearing of five accused students from Jail.

Permission sought for Law Officer of Dibrugarh University, Devraj Sharma and Inspector of Colleges, Member of Anti Ragging Committee, Dr Rupam Saikia.

The Anti Ragging Committee has already taken hearing of 12 accused students in connection with the ragging incidents. Punishment to 4 students have already been announced.

 After completing the hearing of the remaining 5 accused, the committee will announce their verdict against rest 11 students.

Kalyan Dutta

On the other hand, another ragging accused student Kalyan Dutta surrenders before police on Saturday.

Earlier on December 2, taking to his social media handle, the accused, Kalyan Dutta went live and said, “As Bhagawan Ramchandra went on exile (van vase) as per his father’s wishes I too am not living in the comforts of a home with family. This is like van vas for me.”

Further claiming that he is innocent in the entire ragging episode, Dutta said, “I gove my word, I will turn myself in but before that request you all to find proof against me if I have done anything wrong,” he said in the live video post.

“Till now six  students of Dibrugarh University were arrested in connection with ragging incident. Today, Kalyan Dutta, another accused in the case surrendered before Police. The main accused Rahul Chetri is still absconding,” said Dibrugarh Additional SP(HQ) Bitul Chetia said.
