Guwahati: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, Assam police seized 101 kg of Ganja(Marijuana) from a truck in Assam’s Jorabat area on Saturday morning.
After getting specific information, Guwahati Joint Commissioner of Police, Partha Sarthi Mahanta along with a team of city police intercepted a truck at Jorabat during a Naka checking and recovered the huge consignment of drugs hidden inside the vehicle.
The police arrested two persons in conection with the seizure.
“We have received an information and during the search operation, we have found huge consignment of Ganja which was kept inside the truck. The truck has been coming from Tripura side and on its way towards North India. The market value of the seized marijuana is estimated to be around Rs 1 crore,” said an police official.
The Assam police have started a massive crackdown against contraband drugs and so far huge quanity of drugs were seized.
On Thursday, police have seized Ganja weighing about 320 kg from Khanapara area of Assam. The market value of the Ganja worth Rs 2 crore.
In yet another incident of major drug haul, Karimganj Police on January 17 seized 88 kgs of Yaba tablets from Nischintapur in Bagargul area of Assam’s Karimganj district.
