GUWAHATI, JULY 10: Hundreds of people took out a peaceful candle light march in upper Assam, Dibrugarh town seeking justice for animal activist Vineet Bagaria, who committed suicide on Thursday.
The people holding playcards and banners peaceful held the procession in Dibrugarh town seeking ‘justice for Vineet’.
Vineet, a noted animal activist, who hung himself to death on Thursday at his residence at Shani Mandir road in Dibrugarh.
Before his death, Vineet had self recorded a video where he accused Baidullah Khan, Sanjay Sharma and Nishant Sharma of physically and mentally torturing him and his family over a piece of rental property.
Meanwhile, Dibrugarh police arrested three persons in connection with the abetment of suicide of Vineet Bagaria. All three of them were produced before court on Saturday. They have been identified as Baidullah Khan, Nishant Sharma and Samsullah Khan.
Two more accused Sanjay Sarma and Izaz Khan still absconding. A case no. 309/22 u/s 306 IPC registered at Dibrugarh police.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday visited at the residence of Vineet Bagaria and offered condolence to the Bagaria family.
“I’m really ashamed. Mafia came here despite your presence(police). I’ve never been more ashamed in my life that such an incident could happen when I am serving as the chief minister has hurt me a lot. I apologise to his parent, and the people of the state,” Sarma stated.
Vineet was the co-founder of Animal Welfare People(AWP), NGO, which take care of stray dogs. His group had rescued many dogs which were injured in accident. During Covid-19 pandemic, Vinnet had feed many stray dogs. His love for animals has encouraged youngster to join the NGO.
