Assam: Jalannagar Durga Puja to showcase tribal lifestyle

GUWAHATI, SEP 29: The Jalannagar Sarbajani Sri Sri Durga Puja committee, Dibrugarh  has stepped into 61st year will showcasing tribal lifestyle of tribal people in this year.

This year, they are celebrating post Diamond Jubilee celebration. Last year, due to Covid-19 restrictions they could not hold the puja in a big way. Since, 1961 the Jalannagar Sarbajani Sri Sri Durga Puja committee has been organising Durga Puja.

Partha Bhattacharjee, convenor of puja committee said, “This year our theme is based on ‘Tribal park festival’. We will showcase tribal lifestyle and how they live in the  village.  Their way of life and how they live with nature will be highlighted during the four day festival.”

“This year, we are happy that we can organise the festival without any restrictions. Our pandal will be made with eco-friendly materials and we have hired  artisans from Kolkata who are busy in making the pandal decorations. We hope that people will come and enjoy our theme during the festival,”Bhattacharjee added.

Santu Mahapatra, who has come over from Kolkata to make the pandal is busy with his workers to give the finishing touch.

“Most of the work of the pandal was completed and within two days, the whole pandal decorations will be completed. Last two years, we have no work due to Covid-19 pandemic. We are hopeful that people will love our theme and our artistic work,” Mahapatra said.
