Guwahati: The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport, Guwahati, becomes the first Airport in Northesat to launched Digi Yatra on Sunday.
LGBI, biggest Airport in Northeast has launched the Digi Yatra on Sunday for hassel free traveling. Many pasengers across the Northesat comes to LGBI Airport to go to destination because Guwahati is well connected with all states in India.
Speaking to media persons, Assam cabinet minister Chandramohan Patowary said, “Its a good news for the people of Assam and Northeast because today Digi Yatra was launched in the LGBI Airport, Guwahati. With the help of Civil Aviation department and in association with Adani group, the Digi Yatra was launched in LGBI Airport. Earlier, during checking, we have many formalities and have to wait in lines but now after this launched, it will become very easy for the passengers. In some major Airports, the system has been in used and now LGBI will become the first Airport in Northeast to launched the system of Digi Yatra,”.
Rajeev Bansal, secretary, Civil Aviation said, “Its a very positive news for the people of Guwahati. Civil Aviation has been doing lots of development and in coming days many more development will be seen in this sector. New Airports are opening, new flights are coming up. Digi Yatra is a new concept in India which was initiated by Civil Aviation Department. In Digi Yatra, a facial recognition technology was used which was linked to Aadhar. In three stages it can be used while travelling in Guwahati Airport. Through Digi Yatra all the gates will be open very easily without any problem,”.
Utpal Baruah, CAO, LGBI Airport, Guwahati said, “In the entire northeast, the Digi Yatra was first implemented in LGBI Airport for hassel free journey. Only, the passengers have to download the application and their photo and put it up in the application which was linked with Aadhar. Its a very new concept which was launched in LGBI Airport. We are very happy with this system because it is the new concept in Civil Aviation sector,”.
The Digi Yatra facility is all set to be launched at six additional airports across India.
According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the expansion of this contactless passenger processing system to Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Guwahati airports is slated for August 2023.
The phased implementation and installation of Digi Yatra infrastructure at these airports will further enhance the ease and efficiency of air travel for passengers.
The LGBI Airport has witnessed a 15 per cent rise in passenger footfall in June this year to almost five lakh travellers.
