Assam: Three active cadres of Naga National Council  arrested in Cachar

GUWAHATI, AUG 9: In a joint operation, three active cadres of Naga National Council (NNC) were arrested in Assam’s Cachar district on Tuesday. The joint operation was conducted by Assam police and Field Intelligence Unit of Assam Rifles.

 They have been identified as Dinpatrei Tumari(46), Chamdankhuan(37) and Namjaorei Rongmai(38).

According to police, two of them were arrested in Silchar on Monday night while the third person was nabbed from Jirighat area near Assam-Manipur Border according to the police.

Talking to the media persons, Cachar superitendent of police Ramandeep Kaur  informed that the acting on a tip-off they conducted a search operation and arrested two suspected militants along with some weapons from Shib Colony area of Silchar late night on Monday and another from Jirighat area of Cachar. 

Kaur stated that they all are active members of Naga National Council (NNC)/FGN (Federal Govt of Nagaland) and Dinpatrei Riamei is their leader.

“They are using Cachar district as a transit for their activities in Nagaland and Manipur. Some other members of their group managed to escape but we are going to arrest them soon,” Kaur stated.

On January 11 this year where a suspected militant named David Rongmai (30) died at Jirighat during a firing between two suspected groups.

Ramandeep Kaur said that  Dinpatrei Riamei has admitted  that he shot the person who died in January firing. They were involved in similar activities near Assam-Manipur border areas in recent past but their basic area of is Manipur.
