GUWAHATI, SEP 27: The local youth of West Banasbari Durga Puja committee, Dibrugarh are now busy in giving finishing touch to the Durga Puja pandal. For last five years, West Banasbari didn’t engage any workers from outside to built their Puja pandal.
The local youth have taken the initiative to built their Puja pandal with their own. Sumit Sarkar, a youth of Banasbari has started to make pandal a few years ago. His work has been praised a lot who came to saw the puja, after that he started making puja pandal decoration in Dibrugarh.
Amit Banerjee, secretary of West Banasbari Durga Puja committee said, “This year our theme is based on “Save Nature Save us”. We are making the pandal with Toko pat (plum tree) and other eco-friendly materials. We are hoping a good crowd during the Durga Puja festival in our Puja pandal.”
“We have not hired any one to construct our pandal. Sumit Sarkar with other youths of our locality has been making the pandal. Last two years, due to Covid-19 pandemic, we could not organised the Durga Puja in a big way but this time we are organising a Covid free Durga Puja,” Banerjee said.
He said, “We are organising a plastic free puja. We have not used any plastic materials. We have used Toko pat, straw, jute, bamboo and wood to decorate the pandal.”
Sumit Sarkar said, “Few years ago, the Banasbari Durga Puja committee members trusted at me and told me to make the pandal with my own idea. I tried with few youths of our locality and from then, every year I have been allotted the work.”
“For last one month, we are working on the pandal and within two days, the whole pandal will be completed. We have already placed our idol in the puja mandap. We are very happy that this time we are organizing the puja without any restriction.”
