GUWAHATI, SEP 9: In a tragic incident, a wild elephant was killed after being hit by a goods train in Assam’s Hojai district on Thursday evening.
According to sources, the elephant was hit by the train when it was trying to cross the railway track.
The incident took place near Hawaipur in Hojai district of Assam.
The elephant was hit by a train that was carrying cement.
After being hit by the train, the elephant fell on the railway track and soon died.
Forty-five elephants were killed in train accidents in the period 2019-2021, Union Railways, Communications and Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishaw informed this in a written reply to Lok Sabha MP Ramalingam recently.
