Assam Youth Olympics kicks off to a flying start as Athletes shine with power packed performances in Cycling, Judo, Fencing and Football

GUWAHATI, JULY 23: On the first day of the much anticipated Assam Youth Olympics, 2022, the event witnessed an impressive performance by sportspersons; especially in the cycling, fencing and football disciplines. The participating athletes put forth a memorable performance and achieved landmark results for their districts. 

Some of the top performances of the first day of the Assam Youth Olympics, 2022 are mentioned as below: 

Under 17 Football Quarterfinal: 

In an exciting game of football, the Karimganj team pulled a win against Baksa after the Knock Out stage Quarter final saw a Tie Breaker following one all draw at the end of the scheduled time. The final score after tie breaker stood at 4 against 3 with Karimganj as the winners, moving to the Semi Final.

20 Kms Road & Mass Start Cycling (Girls):

The 20 kms Road & Mass Start Cycling saw an enthusiastic performance when Justine Kashyap of Kamrup clocked 31:58 minutes to secure the top spot. Hira Basumatary of Lakhimpur came second with a timing of 31:58.224 minutes followed by Doly Rani Dowarah of Dibrugarh at 32:00.683 minutes. 60 Kms Mass Start Road Cycling (Boys):In the 60 kms Mass Start Road cycling event, the athletes put up a powerful performance. The top spot was secured by Manabjyoti Teron of Kamrup as he completed the race in 1:16:05.289 Hours. The second spot was secured by Chemson Ingti of Kamrup with a timing of 01:16:06.009 Hours and the third spot was secured by Priyansu Deka of Kamrup with a timing of 01:16:07.881 hours. 

40 Kms Road Cycling Individual Time trial (Boys):

In the 40 kms road cycling individual time trial for boys, Rimanju Roy of Kamrup won the race with a timing of 21:52.374 minutes. He was followed by Chemson Ingti of Kamrup at 22:41.187 minutes in the second spot and Bishal Jyoti Saikia of Kamrup at 23:32.452 minutes in the third spot. 

20 Kms Road Cycling Individual Time trial (Girls):

Hira Basumatary of Lakhimpur clinched the top spot with an impressive timing of 24:23.178 minutes to win the 20 kms Road Cycling Individual Time Trial (ITT) competition. Basumatary was followed by Devika Sarma of Kamrup at the second spot with a timing of 24:47.154 minutes and Dolly Rani Dowrah of Dibrugarh at third spot with a timing of 25:15.240 minutes. 

Judo (Boys)

In the under 50 kgs boys Judo, Abhinav Gogoi of Dibrugarh secured the top slot as Nalbir Narzary of Karbi Anglong settled for second position. Raj Deori of Dhemaji and Birdao Basumatary of Kokrajhar secured third and fourth positions respectively. 

Judo (Girls)

In the under 40 kgs category, Monika Ke Appi of Karbi Anglong secured the top slot as Silparani Tapadar of Charaideo settled for the second spot.In the under 44 kgs category, Purabi Sharma of Karbi Anglong secured the top spot as Jyotilota Deori of Dhemaji settled for second spot. Ruimali Basumatary of Nagaon secured the third spot. In the under 48 kgs category, Laimun Daimary of Nagaon secured the top slot as Manisha Dutta of Tinsukia and Bhumi Limbu of Guwahati secured the second and third spots respectively. Somaina Basumatary of Karbi Anglong was at the fourth position. 

Fencing:

In the Foil Girls segment, Polmoni Forguhain of Dhemaji won the top spot followed by Berismita Rabha of Goalpara at the second spot. Debika Borah of Guwahati & Esmita Das of Tinsukia came third in this event.the Sabri Girl segment, Himashri Moran of Guwahati secured the top spot followed by Priyanka Boro of Udalguri. The third spot was secured by Dolly Gogoi of Tinsukia and Tanushri Singha of Silchar.In the Epee Girl segment, Karishmita Moran of Tinsukia won the top slot as Chayanika Gogoi of Tinsukira followed up with the second position. Sita Tali of Dibrugarh and Sukanya Borah of Guwahati secured the third position. 

The Assam Youth Olympics, 2022 is being organised by the Assam Olympic Association, under the aegis of Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, Government of Assam at multiple venues in Guwahati from July 22 to July 27, 2022. The participants are representing all the 35 districts of the state.

More than 4500 players along with officials are part of this sporting extravaganza. Sports like Archery, Cycling, Hockey, Kho-Kho, Squash, Volleyball, Yoga, Athletics, Dragonboat, Judo, Lawn Bowls, Swimming, Wrestling, Triathlon, Badminton, Fencing, Kabaddi, Rowing, Taekwondo, Weightlifting, Rugby, Basketball, Football, Karate, Sepak Takraw, Tennis, Wushu, Netball, Boxing, Gymnastics, Kayaking & Canoeing, Shooting, Table Tennis, Tang So Do are being played during these games. AS many as 12 venues across Guwahati like Bhogeswari Phukanani Indoor Stadium, Dispur, RG Baruah Sports Complex, Ulubari; All Assam Tennis Association, Chachal; LNIPE, Tepesia; Kahilipara Shooting range; Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium, Ulubari; SAI Sports Complex, Paltan Bazaar; Maulana M Tayabulla Hockey Stadium, Sawkuchi; Dr Zakir Hussain Aquatics Complex, Sarusajai; Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium, Sarusajai; Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium, Sarusajai; and Dighalipukhuri.
