GUWAHATI, JULY 19: After days of relentless search the body of a road construction worker who was part of a 19-member group engaged in BRO road building project in remote Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh who had gone missing since July 5was recovered from the Furak river on Monday.
Talking to this correspondent over phone, Kurung Kumey deputy commissioner Bengia Nighee said that a police team along with an executive magistrate has been sent to the spot located between Huri and Rupa villages, about 170 km from the district headquarters.
He said that a clear picture of whether the recovered body was that of one of the 19 missing persons would emerge once the teams reach the district headquarters.
“Its a very dangerous terrain. Our police and magistrate team left for the spot at 4.30am. Moreover there are plenty of poisonous snakes in the dense jungles. It is possible that the person whose body was found may have died of snake bite. A medical team has been sent to the spot to carry out the postmortem because it would be quite difficult for them to carry the body back to Koloriang,” the deputy commissioner said.
The DC mentioned that the missing construction workers hailed from Assam and were engaged in the construction of a BRO road from Damin to Huri. He said that two to three sub-contractors from Assam who were working under the BRO contractor brought the workers from the neighbouring state.
“The exact reason why the migrant labourers fled their camp is still a mystery. On July 13 we received a ‘missing report’ from BRO contractor Bengia Bado that 19 out of 30 workers had fled from their camp at Damin, about 200 km from the district headquarters, Koloriang on July 5,” the DC said.
He said all the workers hails from Assam and has been working under Assam based contractor.
“The place is very remote and their is no mobile network in the area and the rescue team has been facing immense problem. Police investigation is on and very soon the picture will be clear,” the DC said.
