Congress held Dibrugarh administration responsible for suicide of animal activist Vineet Bagaria

GUWAHATI, JULY 15: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee(APCC) working president Rana Goswami on Friday held Dibrugarh administration responsible for the suicide of animal activist Vineet Bagaria.

Addressing a press conference at Dibrugarh Rajiv Bhavan on Friday, Rana Goswami lashed out at Dibrugarh police for failing to take action against the culprits after filing compliant. Goswami said “The Dibrugarh police was also equally responsible for the suicide of Vineet Bagaria. Repeatedly the family of Vinnet Bagaria informed the police that they were getting threatening but still police didn’t take any action against Sanjay Sharma, Baidullah Khan, Nishant Sharma and Izaz Khan. If the police take action against them in the right time then, Vineet should alive today,”.

“The home department and police was equally responsible for the suicide of Vineet. Father of Vineet Bagaria Kailash Bagaria filed FIR against Sanjay Sharma, Baidullah Khan, Nishant Sharma and Izaz Khan but Dibrugarh police didn’t lodged the FIR. Its a great lapse on the part of Dibrugarh police,” Goswami said.

Goswami come down heavily on chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for dividing criminals.

“Criminals is criminals before law. But chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma taking the name of only Baidullah Khan. CM Sarma didn’t take the name of the main mastermind Sanjay Sharma whereas Vinnet before his death, done a video on his mobile phone which was later viral in social media where he named Sanjay Sharma the mastermind of all the happenings,” Rana Goswami added.

He further added, “Criminals should not be divided. Criminal is a criminal but chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tried to divide criminals by taking the name of Baidullah Khan. We condemned such polarization politics and demand that all the accused should be booked as per law,”.

32-year-old Vineet Bagaria who was the co-founder of Animal Welfare People, an NGO for stray and abandoned animals, had hung himself to death on July 7 at his Shani Mandir road residence in Dibrugarh town.

Vineet’s father Kailash Bagaria who is a chartered accountant revealed that he had leased out a shop on the ground floor of his residence to Sanjay Sharma 15 years ago.

Sharma had later sub-let the shop to Baidullah Khan who opened a motorcycle repairing shop without his permission. The Bagaria family has been trying to evict the property for last several years but the accused has refused to vacate the place.

Baidullah Khan and Nishant Sharma from the Lumding Railway Station while trying to flee. Another accused in the case Samsullah Khan was also arrested. All there of them were sent to judicial custoday.

The main mastermind Sanjay Sharma and Izaz Khan still absconding. A case no. 309/22 u/s 306 IPC registered at Dibrugarh police.
