Guwahati: Free Tibet-a voice from Assam (people’s forum) inaugurates a book titled ‘Free Tibet Voice from Assam’, to mark the 64th Tibetan Uprising Day at Guwahati Press Club, Ambari.
The book is written by Novanita Sharma (Coordinator, Free Tibet a voice from Assam). This book is part of the people’s movement spearheaded by ‘Free Tibet-a voice from Assam’ in NE India, supporting independence of Tibet by overthrowing the forceful occupation of communist China from the Tibetan plateau. This book brings forth rare aspects of Tibetan freedom movement to everyone from an Indian Tibet-freedom movement activist’s viewpoint.
Tibetan Uprising Day, observed every year on March 10th, commemorates the 1959 Tibetan Uprising against the forceful occupation of Tibet by the Communist government of the People’s Republic of China.
The failure of the armed rebellion ultimately resulted in a violent crackdown on Tibetan independence movement, and led to the flight of the 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso into exile. Tibet continues to remain under the forceful occupation of People’s Republic of China till date. 10th March 2023 marks the 64th year of Tibetan Uprising.
According to official records, 1.2 million Tibetans have been killed and 6000 thousand monasteries been destroyed since 1959 by the draconian Communist Chinese regime in Tibet. India has been home to millions of Tibetans who came to India seeking a safe haven in wake of the Tibetan Uprising, the exodus of Tibetans continues to take place due to the oppressive rule of People’s Republic of China. The unique culture, ethnicity and environment of Tibet is highly endangered by this oppressive rule of Communist China.
The proceedings of 64th Tibetan Uprising Day began with performance of Tibetan National anthem by members of ‘Free Tibet-a voice from Assam’ at Guwahati Press Club. It was followed by a formal book release function attended by prominent writers, journalists, social workers, artists, media persons along with a host of Tibet supporters and members of the forum.
The book titled ‘Free Tibet Voice from Assam,’ written by Smt. Novanita Sharma is formally inaugurated by Padmasree Ajoy Dutta (renowned social workers), Rupam Barua (Mountaineer, writer & senior journalist), Dr. Jagadindra Raychowdhury (Writer & Educationist), Sri. Pronoy Bordoloi (Mountaineer & Senior journalist), Ramanuj Dutta Chowdhury (Bureau Chief- The Assam Tribune), Urvashi Mahanta (Social worker) and Sri. Soumyadeep Datta (Writer & Environment activist, Convener, Free Tibet-a voice from Assam).
Kankana Das (Member, Free Tibet-a voice from Assam) hosted the event with her rich deliberation which included an introduction about the Tibetan Uprising Day in her welcome address. She also spoke briefly about the contributions of Free Tibet-a voice from Assam in raising the grassroots movement of NE India supporting complete freedom of Tibet.
Soumyadeep Datta welcomed everyone to this book release function with his inaugural speech. He presented a brief review of the book that raises many critical aspects of the Tibetan freedom movement along with a first-hand account of the grassroots civil society movement taking place in NE India under the leadership of Free Tibet- a voice from Assam.
He pointed out at some very important aspects regarding communist China that has been put forward to the world very boldly in this book. He said this is perhaps the first book written about Tibetan freedom movement from NE India.
Novanita Sharma spoke briefly after the inaugural speech about the book and urged every Indian citizen to participate in the Tibetan freedom movement with whole hearted involvement, she called for a change of mindset amongst Indians towards the Tibetan cause. She said this book will connect rest of India and the world with the grassroots movement of NE India demanding complete independence of Tibet. She called the Tibetan freedom movement an inseparable Indian cause and urged every Indian citizen to strengthen this movement with their support and participation.
Ramanuj Dutta Chowdhury spoke about the ecological threats to Brahmaputra River system from Communist Chinese government in Tibet, he also spoke about other important aspects of Tibetan quest for independence in future.
Ajoy Dutta spoke about the close cultural ties between Tibet and India since ancient times, he praised the dynamic contributions of Free Tibet-a voice from Assam in spearheading a grassroots movement in Assam for the cause of Tibetan freedom movement.
Pronoy Bordoloi spoke about the importance of Tibetan plateau for India and the entire world from geographic and historic point of view. As an avid mountaineer he lends his support to the cause of the Tibetan freedom movement and urged everyone to participate in this movement. Dr. Jagadindra Raychowdhury spoke about the importance of raising awareness about Tibet and the Tibetan freedom movement amongst the students and young generations, he appreciated the dynamic work of Free Tibet-a voice from Assam in this regard.
Rupam Barua spoke about the significance of Tibetan freedom movement to reinstate peace in the Himalayan borders of India. He reiterated the fact that historically Tibet is India’s neighbour from ages.
Tibet is our real neighbour; communist China has jeopardized this historical truth by forcefully occupying Tibet since 1959. He expressed his affirmative believe about Tibetan independence from the oppressive rule of CCP (Communist Party of China), it is just a matter of time. Smt. Urvashi Mahanta spoke briefly about the importance of Tibetan freedom movement for the future security and peace of India. She called the book ‘Free Tibet Voice from Assam’ a rich contribution to the Tibetan freedom movement. She urged everyone to read the book and connect with this cause to strengthen this civil society movement in India.
Soumyadeep Datta summed up the event and extended vote of thanks to everyone who participated in the 64th Tibetan Uprising Day and book release function. The event came to an end with raising of the Tibetan National flag followed by singing of Indian National anthem by all participants and organisers present at the venue.Free Tibet-a voice from Assam is successfully leading the most dynamic civil society movement of Indian citizens supporting complete independence of Tibet from the illegal occupation and forceful rule of communist Chinese government in Tibet. This book will provide an opportunity to people from different parts of India and the world to connect with this grassroots movement taking place in NE India. This is the first book about Tibetan freedom movement written and published from NE India.
The bold narratives of this book prove Communist China to be a powerless regional bully, the author calls for a change of mindset towards Tibet with greater responsibility from the Indian citizens.
This book establishes Tibetan freedom movement as an integral ‘Indian cause’, it asserts the critical role of Assam and NE India in this regard. It provides a deep insight into the importance of the ‘Free Tibet-a voice from Assam’ led grassroots movement of NE India in leading the fervour of Tibetan freedom movement in India.
