GUWAHATI, AUG 16: A clash broke out between the disputed areas along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border at Rupahi Rajgarh in Lakhimpur district of Assam.
Sources said a group of miscreants from Arunachal Pradesh side allegedly attacked a Village Defence Party (VDP) at Rupahi Rajgarh area in Lakhimpur.
According to police, six persons sustained injuries in the attack and undergoing treatment at hospital.
Following the incident, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has also staged a road blockade along the main highway leading to Arunachal Pradesh.
Police said the VDP personnel had questioned four youths from Arunachal Pradesh after finding them roaming in the vehicle in the locality.
“After questioning, the VDP let them go. After sometimes they returned with around 40 miscreants, who attacked the the VDP personnel,” said a police officer.
This was not the first incident; many such incidents were reported from the area.
When talks between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam has been going on to resolved the border issues, the incident has created a atmosphere of tension.
The AASU lifted the road blockade after Arunachal Pradesh police assured them to nab the culprits.
