GUWAHATI, SEP 28: The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal extended heartfelt gratitude for the new rail cum road bridge over Brahmaputra to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on behalf of the people of Assam & the North-east.
Earlier, the Union Government sanctioned a budget of ₹ 996.75 crores for building a brand new Rail cum Road bridge over Brahmaputra. The approach and via ducts will be built by NHAI at a cost of ₹ 322 crores.
This is yet another step by the Union Government to improve the communication in the Northeast & Assam and help smoothen transport between the banks of the Brahmaputra.
Earlier, the Union Minister of Roads Transport & Highways, Page 1 of 2 Nitin Gadkari announced that the new rail & road bridge over Brahmaputra will come up near the existing Straight bridge. The bridge will be built jointly by the Indian railways and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
Speaking on this historic decision, the Union Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal said, “The historic announcement to build the fourth rail cum road bridge over Brahmpautra serves us a warm reminder how Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains committed for the development of Assam and the whole of Northeast. I want to thank our Adaraniya Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, on behalf of the people of Assam, for his untiring commitment and affection for growth & development of the region. Since the beginning of his government at the centre, PM Modi has always accorded special attention for the needs & requirements of the people of the Northeast. Today, people of the region are witnessing and experiencing how Modi ji’s call of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’ are giving a new visor to the overall growth & development in the region.My sincere gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji for this bridge over the Brahmaputra on behalf of all the people of the region.”
The new bridge will give momentum to the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan as this project is going to play an important role.
The Union Minister also thanked the Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari and the Union Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw.
