GUWAHATI, AUG 31: The United Liberation Front of Asom- Independent (ULFA-I) has become tough against their cadres in last few months. Those cadres who want to flee from their camp, they are awarded with death sentence.
On August 31, 2022, the banned militant outfit announced that another cadre of the outfit was awarded the death sentence for allegedly trying to flee from of its camps on Wednesday.
The outfit announced this in a statement. The cadre has been identified as Rihan Asom alias Mohammad Saiful Islam.
He is said to be a resident of Lakhipur village in the Goalpara district.
Recently, many youths who have joined the Ulfa(I) has returned to mainstream and many of them were fled from their camp to live a dignified life.
The top brass of Ulfa(I) has learned that if such things are repeatedly going on then their group will left with a bunch of cadres.
Meanwhile, the Ulfa-I has been campaigning through social media to recruit unemployed youths in their organisation.
“Some of the misguided youths joined Ulfa-I but they returned to their home. They are targeting the uemployed youths of the rural belts by branwashing them. We are working hard to foil their every activities,” said a police source.
This is the third confirmed death penalty by the outfit to its cadres this year. Earlier, in May, two other cadres were announced the death penalty on allegations of them “spying” on the outfit on behalf of the Assam Police.
The two cadres were identified as Dhanjit Das alias Roopak Asom and Sanjib Sarma alias Rishav Asom.
Dhanjit Das hailed from lower Assam’s Barpeta town while Sanjib Sarma was a resident of Baihata Chariali in Kamrup district.
“After going in the Ulfa-I camps, the youths realised that the life is not meant for them and they returned. But now, the top brass of Ulfa-I(I) has started awarding death sentence of the cadre those who want to come back to mainstream,” the police source said.
