Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal harps on effective vigilance as key for transparency in business

GUWAHATI, AUG 4: The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal chaired a review meeting of all vigilance officials of Indian ports at New Delhi on Thursday.

The minister sought suggestions from the officials to effectively implement steps to bring transparency and those that helps to weed out corruption of any kind.

The minister harped on the point of effective vigilance as key for bringing in transparency in business, resulting swift growth in trade and increase in nation’s wealth.

During the review meet, the minister took stock of the situation by interacting with the officials regarding pendency of complaints, preventive measures taken & overall working environment in the major ports.

The effective usage of Information Technology was also emphasised in order to bring in efficiency in the system. Activities like Gate Automation, Weigh Bridge automation etc were asked to be automated through IT solutions with robust cyber security. The role of training, workshops were discussed to amp up the strength of the vigilance officials.

 Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal, said, “As per the direction of Prime minister Narendra Modiji, we are committed to zero tolerance against Corruption. Today, while interacting with the vigilance officials, I sought their suggestions to improve vigilance in our ports so that more transparency can be brought to rule out any possibility of wrong doing. Our primary objective is to help our organisations, our ports to become effective and efficient. Through vigilance, we can ensure a corruption free system and bring in efficiency & speed. This will boast good governance, boost  business & trade, resulting growth in nation’s wealth.”
