The last 20 hours of rain in Ahmedabad caused severe damage to 30 vehicles worth Rs 1.50 crore in the basement of Sanatan apartment at Bakeri City, Vejalpur. The residents bought water extraction pumps to dispose of the 10 feet of flooded water in the basement area due to no help from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
A resident of the apartment, Maheshbhai Gadhvi said that all the vehicles parked in the basement were submerged by the water flooding caused by the heavy continuous rain. Also, the apartment’s office located in the basement was too completely flooded. He further added that the residents kept begging for help but no help came even from the AMC.
Karamanbhai Chauhan of Sanatan Apartment claimed that said that in fact, the tax money went into the water. He expressed the situation as a small village being flooded and people fighting to overcome the situation due to the rainy night.
All the residents jointly complained that even after informing the concerned authorities including AMC, there was no positive response from them. Hence, they brought a water extraction machine from the society’s fund. As a result, the outrage of the people has now reached a climax.
Shah, a local resident of the apartment, said it has been the same situation as this for years during the heavy rains. He stressed that yesterday’s situation obstructed residents from going in and out. Also, in case of any medical emergency, even if anyone has to go out, the only safe option was they must go through seven rooms.
In Gujarat, the rains came as the destruction of property and life. As per the statistics by Gujarat Government, 52 people have died in the heavy floods. Out of 52, lightning struck 32 people, and 20 died due to stress and drowning.
