A Government Railway Police (GRP) officer reported on Friday that a man suspected of raping and killing a seven-year-old girl, who allegedly fled Panipat in Haryana after committing the crime, was detained at Howrah railway station.
He was detained by the Haryana Police after being apprehended by the Howrah GRP on Thursday, according to the officer. GRP sources claim that the culprit was detained based on a photo and information given by the Haryana Police earlier on Thursday while he was riding in the S 6 coach of the Kalka Mail.
According to GRP sources, the Haryana Police had informed the Howrah GRP that the suspect was travelling from Panipat to Kolkata after allegedly raping and killing a young girl. As a result, the GRP began keeping an eye out for him and monitoring him at the train station.
The suspect reportedly boarded the train without a ticket, but later paid a fine and purchased a ticket to Howrah, according to sources. According to GRP sources, he was detained as soon as the train arrived at Howrah railway station. A Haryana Police team quickly travelled to Howrah and arrested the man.
