Three suspected Jihadis arrested from Goalpara district of Assam

GUWAHATI, AUG 20: In a major crackdown against jihadi elements in the state, Assam police on Saturday taste another sucesss after they arrested a suspected Jihadi from a mosque in Assam’s Goalpara district.

According to police, the accused Abdus Subahan  was serving as an Imam for the past two years in Goalpara mosque.

The police have even detained Subahan’s nephew and his elder for questioning.

 A person hailing from Goalpara’s Matia area has been apprehended today morning by the cops on suspicion of having links with Jihadi groups. The person hailing from Matia region has been identified as Jalal Uddin.

 Meanwhile, police have started investigation the know the exact role of the Jihadi.

Earlier on August 2, Assam police arrested another person in Barpeta district for an alleged link with Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), a Bangladesh-based Jihadi group known as a wing of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent. The accused is detained as a suspect of having a connection with the ABT. 

Assam police have been working in close coordination with the central agiencies to the bust the jihadi module operating in the state.

Earlier, police have arrested 9 more persons who were found to have links with these jihadi organizations, and, today after the detention of Sofique Uddin Ahmed, a total of 10 Jihadis are being investigated at Barpeta Police station.

“They are operating in the rural belt of Assam and influcencing the youths through many ways.  We have started a crackdown against the fundamental elements working against our nation,” said a police official.
