In an event on Monday afternoon, the Election Commission of India (ECI) named actor Pankaj Tripathi a “National icon.” The Mirzapur actor was already a state icon of Bihar, engaging as a spokesperson and motivator for young people to register to vote and take part in the state’s elections.
The honour was presented to the actor for “his participation with ECI in boosting voter awareness.” Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar made the announcement in Delhi during an event.
The ECI’s Official Twitter account released few pictures from the event with a caption, “ECI launches Radio series – #MatdataJunction in collaboration with Akashvani AIR for voter awareness. Actor & State Icon Shri Pankaj Tripathi declared ECI’s National Icon”.
