Even though it was Sunday, many people came here seeking assistance as soon as they learned about the catastrophe. In order to save the victims who were drowning, people created a human chain and risked their lives. People who could swim have jumped into the river to save some victims.
Former BJP MLA Kantibhai Amritya himself got involved in the rescue operation and he suggested other people to join the rescue operation as well. It is worth mentioning that many people came here because of Sunday. Then in the same evening, the bridge suddenly broke and the tourists fell into the water along with the bridge. As soon as people came to know about the incident, a rescue operation was carried out. So far 42 people have died. The death toll is still expected to rise.
As the bridge collapsed, people were hanging on cables and some were swimming in the water to save their lives. Not only that, it can be seen in the video that several people were trying to save each other by holding each other’s hands and feet. As soon as the incident was reported, the district administration along with the fire department reached the spot and a rescue operation was carried out. There people were pulled out of the river and immediately shifted to the hospital through an ambulance.
