It’s interesting to note that Nawaz Sharif is the senior brother of Shehbaz Sharif, the current prime minister, and also the PML-supreme N’s leader. On Thursday, the two brothers met in London, surrounded by a group of prominent ministers.
The three-time premier was given an ordinary passport earlier this year by Pakistan’s interior minister. Nawaz, however, asserts that he already possessed a diplomatic passport after his own had expired in February 2021 and had not been renewed by the government of Imran Khan.
Since being removed from office by the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case in July 2017, the 72-year-old leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has been the target of several corruption prosecutions brought by the administration of former prime minister Imran Khan.
After receiving a four-week authorization from the Lahore High Court to travel overseas for treatment, Nawaz Sharif departed for London in November 2019.
He had pledged to the Lahore High Court that he would return to Pakistan within four weeks or as soon as physicians determined he was healthy and fit to fly, citing his record to face the legal system and justice.
Nawaz Sharif might be prepared to go back to Pakistan after spending three years in Britain. The PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz hinted earlier this month that the former prime minister would return to the nation because “no case is now left” against him.
