A Fire department staffer killed after scuffle in Nadia

An employee of the fire department was killed on Wednesday night while travelling with others to the immersion of the Kali idol in the Krishnanagar neighbourhood of the Nadia district when he was allegedly shot and killed by a bunch of youngsters after a brawl.

Tuhin Shuvra Ghosh, 39 and employed in the district’s Ranaghat subdistrict, was named as the deceased. A post-mortem was performed on his body, and a police inquiry into the occurrence has begun.

“A murder case has been reported, and an investigation is underway. The murder’s motive is now unknown, and the case appears to have no political ties, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Ishani Pal.

It is understood that Ghosh urged some inebriated youngsters to remove the road they had reportedly obstructed while travelling with a party to the Kali idol immersion. A brawl broke out as a result, and the teenagers chased after Ghosh and attacked him with sticks and other objects, according to an official. He continued, saying that Ghosh was knocked to the ground and suffered many wounds, including those to his head and neck. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where medics pronounced him dead.

“The body suffered numerous wounds. However, we won’t know the precise cause of the death until we receive the post-mortem report, according to a senior police official. He stated that the accused have not yet been named. Police reported that they were conducting raids to find individuals responsible for the event.

The Trinamool Congress, which is in power, was blamed for the event, according to the BJP. “It’s terrible that, Fire & Emergency Services Department personnel; Tuhin Das lost his life yesterday at Krishnanagar; Nadia during Kali Puja Visarjan after he was stabbed by several TMC workers, who were in a drunken state,” wrote opposition leader Suvendhu Adhikari in a tweet. The perpetrators must be detained by the administration.
