Assam: Longest steel grider flyover ‘Nilachal’ inaugurates by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inaugurated ‘Nilachal flyover wich is Assam’s longest 4-lane steel grider flyover.

Few hours before the inauguration of the Maligaon flyover it was renamed as Nilachal flyover.

It may be mentioned that the 2.6km four-lane flyover has been built with a total investment of ₹420.75 crore.

Speaking at the programme, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “In 2020-21, we have decided to construct a steel grider flyover from Maligaon to Kamakhya, which is one of the busiest road in Guwahati. Today, finally, we have open the bride for public,”.

“The Maligaon to Kamakhya is one the busiest place and very rush during office hours and evening time, the bridge will ease the rush,” he said.

The flyover, stretching from Maligaon chariali to Kamakhya gate on AT road, boasts an extended arm to Pandu ghat feeder road.

The construction of the bridge started at March 2021.

The project was engineered by the Assam PWD, and constructed by a joint venture of Shree Gautam Construction Co Ltd and Anupam Nirman Pvt Ltd.

The foundation stone of the project was laid in October 2020. Within a span of almost three hours, the bridge was open for the public.

“We are very happy the within a span of few years, the flyover was completed and now we can used this flyover. We often used bus services and it takes time to reach Maligaon from Kamakhya due to heavy traffic flow and rush but now it will become easy for us to travel through this route,” said Kamal Medhi, a resident of Guwahati.
