Smriti Irani, a union minister, participated in a gathering in the Mehsana town hall as a part of the BJP’s electoral campaign for the upcoming state Assembly election. Several college students at the event’s location told India Today that their professor had asked them to attend the event while they were in class. Some of the girls acknowledged that instead of going to the BJP event, they should have been studying at the time.
“I have come to listen to Smriti Irani because our professor asked us to do so. We came over here during our college time. We could have been studying at this time,” said one of the college students.
The Union minister travelled to Mehsana to promote Mukesh Dwarkadas Patel, who the BJP has nominated to represent Mehsana in the forthcoming Gujarat Assembly election, and to attend a convention for women.
The goal of the town hall event, which featured prominent BJP figures including former Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, was to attract ladies from various locations to hear Smriti Irani speak. The purpose of the event was to engage women and girls.
