According to government figures released on Monday, India’s fiscal deficit for the six months ending in September reached 6.20 trillion Indian rupees ($74.91 billion), or 37.3% of annual projections. The figures showed that total expenditure was 18.24 trillion rupees, while net tax receipts increased to 10.12 trillion rupees.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman set the fiscal deficit target for 2022–23 commencing in April at 6.4% of GDP, down from 6.7% in the prior fiscal year, when she unveiled the annual budget in February.
