CM Mamata Banerjee shakes leg, dances in a tribal song during Durga carnival

KOLKATA, Oct 9: At the big carnival this afternoon, which showcased the top 95 durga pujas of Kolkata, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee joined a group of tribal dancers and mimicked their movements.

A tribal song was playing over the speakers as Banerjee approached a group of actors and dancers and started dancing. Along with the stars of well-known Bengali serials, actor and TMC MLA June Malia was also spotted dancing with them.

Since 2016, the spectacular craftsmanship on display during the five-day festival has been highlighted with a parade on Kolkata’s Red Road in front of an audience that includes Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, UNESCO members, diplomats, and others. The Covid-19 epidemic, however, prevented the carnival for two years.

This year, celebrations of Durga puja were held in every district of the state, with the exception of Jalpaiguri, which was mourning the deaths of eight people who were swept away by a flash flood during the immersion of Durga idols. Durga puja celebrations in Kolkata were given Intangible Heritage status by UNESCO.
