During the puja earlier this week, several private hospitals in Kolkata had a high increase in dengue admissions, and the flood of patients hasn’t subsided since.
Between October 2 and October 5, at least four hospitals admitted between 20 and 40 dengue cases, making it the most common disease during the festival. Prior to the admissions increase, there was a minor decline in the week before the puja.
Over 4,000 of Bengal’s more than 20,000 dengue cases were in Kolkata, making it the city with the greatest number of illnesses since 2019. For instance, 29 new dengue cases were admitted to Peerless Hospital between September 30 and October 5. There are now 27 dengue patients in the hospital.
Just before puja, the number had decreased. We anticipated fewer admissions for dengue given that admissions decline during the festival. However, the amount was significantly larger than anticipated, according to Sudipta Mitra, CEO of Peerless.
At Woodlands Hospital, the increase in admissions has been comparable to sharp. “Since Saptami, 32 dengue admissions have been made, with 4-5 new patients being admitted daily. Our dengue occupancy is currently at 23, and we’ve had seven admissions in the previous 24 hours, according to Rupali Basu, MD & CEO of Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital.
