Durga Puja 2022: Kolkata’s Mudiali Club pandal spreads the essence of Happiness with Solar and green lighting

At Mudiali Club Pandal, one can witness a rainbow of colours that will take you through joy and optimism in this post-pandemic time. One of the most well-known pujas in south Kolkata is Mudiali Club Puja, which is recognized for its originality.

The main highlight of this pandal is their eco- friendly lighting. The lighting design for the pandal has been created by award-winning artist Gauranga Kuila. Santanu Banerjee, one of the organizers, stated, “We have put a lot of thought and work into lighting up the pandal and we have tried to create a feel-good environment for the tourists”.

The organizers definitely deserve praise for illuminating the pandal area with solar electricity. “This is our effort to foster a green environment and lessen carbon emissions”, Banerjee continued. No matter what the theme is, the club’s idol has stayed the same and has always been created by the same family.

Ashit Pal, an idol maker in his third generation, is based in Chandan Nagar. Before him, his father and grandmother created idols for the team. The traditional idol with the daker saaj has always been their USP.

In 2019, the club created a patachitra-based pandal, and it immediately became popular. Under the direction of Gauranga Kuila, the pandal was constructed in 2020 while maintaining a minimal budget for the puja. The group participates in several social events all year long. The organization helped a student who was visually impaired financially for two years last year. “We also paid for a portion of a cancer patient’s medical expenses. In addition, we conducted a year-long campaign in our area to combat malaria and dengue. “We provide medical supplies and support to the COVID-affected families during the pandemic,” said Banerjee.

Rabindra Sarobar is the closest Metro station to the pandal, which is close to Tollygunge. Mudiali is the next bus stop after Southern Avenue. Pandal-hoppers can also board a train, disembark at Tollygunge station, and then 500m walk to the pandal.
