A pandal included a silicon Durga idol representing the life of sex workers in Kolkata for the first time. The silicon idol, which shows a mother cuddling a kid, was carved. This year, Kolkata is celebrating Durga Puja with splendor and fanfare.
The city is decorated in festive colours, and organizers have erected lovely thematic pandals all over the place. Additionally, a pandal exhibited a silicon Durga statue for the first time that portrayed the lives of sex workers in Kolkata. The Durga Puja Committee of the Baranagar Noapara Dadabhai Sangha has presented a theme that depicts the lives of sex workers. Although the idea has been introduced before, the silicon-based Durga idol is fresh.
The silicon-sculpted idol shows a mother holding a child in her arms. With the idols of Lord Ganesh, Goddess Saraswati, and Goddess Lakshmi, Durga Maa can be seen wearing an original white and red Bengali saree and having her hair open.
This Durga idol portrays the life of a sex worker outside of her line of work, including one position as a loving mother. According to Durga Puja organizers, this year’s theme is Parichay (identification), or the struggle for identity in a culture where sex workers are despised.
Throughout the nine-day Navratri festival, devotees worship Maa Durga in her nine forms to seek her blessings. Every day of Navratri is associated with a specific goddess manifestation. During these nine days people maintain ceremonial fasts, recite shlokas to each goddess, put on new garments, offer bhog, and clean their homes. They implore the goddess to provide them happiness, success, and fulfilment in life.
Along with the devotees, Bengali Film actor Dav visited Dada Bahi Sangha today and also congratulated the people of Dada Bahi Sangha.
