For Cattle ‘Smuggling Judicial Custody extended for Anubrata

Anubrata Mandal, a top Trinamool Congress official, had his judicial custody extended by a SPECIAL CBI court on Saturday for a further 14 days because of his suspected involvement in a livestock smuggling scheme.

His attorney said that the CBI was only looking at a specific political party and conducting the inquiry for that reason. The CBI attorney opposed the bail request and said that Mondal was not helping with the inquiry. The court set November 11 as the next date for hearings after hearing both sides’ arguments. By doing this, the court extended Mondal’s judicial custody till then.

After Mondal ignored many CBI summonses, the CBI detained him on August 11 in connection with a livestock smuggling case. Fixed deposits owned by Mondal and his family in the amount of Rs 16.97 crore have been frozen by the CBI.
