The leader of the West Bengal opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, appealed to the home ministry on Monday to dispatch federal forces to Mominpur to put a halt to alleged violence.
According to the news agency ANI, a confrontation between two groups from two different tribes took place on October 9 as a result of some miscreants, who are said to have torn a holy banner during the Eid Milad-Un-Nabi festival. Later, a throng gathered outside Ekbalpore PS to demand the arrest of those responsible for the crime.
According to accounts quoted by ANI, after clashes between two clans in Mominpur, a throng assembled outside the Ekbalpore police station in Kolkata to protest the bloodshed.
Suvendu Adhikari, a leader in the BJP demanded the deployment of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to control the situation in a letter to West Bengal Governor La Ganesan and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Adhikari claimed that some miscreants had taken control of the Ekbalpur Police Station.
He accused the state administration of failing to maintain law and order and asserted that the federal forces would make sure that the spark could be put out before it spread into a wildfire.

Because of the violence in the state, particularly after the results of the 2021 Assembly election were released, the opposition party has criticised the West Bengal government. This year’s Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata has the post-election violence, which claimed at least 16 lives, as its subject.
According to ANI, West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar will visit the Khidderpore neighbourhood in the Ekbalpore PS today to assess the situation.
