Ex Kolkata Mayor Meets Mamata at her Residence for Bahi Dhooj

Sovan Chatterjee, a former mayor of Kolkata, and Baisakhi Bandyopadhyay paid Mamata Banerjee a visit today at her home. This has rekindled rumours that Mr. Chatterjee will likely join the Trinamool Congress again (TMC). In 2019, he left the TMC and joined the BJP.
Mr. Chatterjee met with the TMC leader for the second time this year at their meeting today.

Mr. Chatterjee commented on the visit to Ms. Banerjee’s home today as follows: “When I met Mamata Banerjee, politics were undoubtedly brought up. Whatever occurs will be under her word.”

Later, while she was leaving the home of the Bengal Chief Minister, Ms “Sovan was given bhai-phonta (Bhai Dooj) by Mamata Didi, and Didi spoils him often. She regards Sovan as a sibling. I’m delighted their close friendship is still going strong. Didi has always viewed him as a political activist and has always given him advice to keep up his activism.”

Added her: “There was a miscommunication in the interim, but it is now resolved. Sovan ought to get back into active politics.” Mr. Chatterjee expected a significant role and a lucrative position in the party after joining the BJP, but neither of those things transpired. He and his buddy Ms. Bandyopadhyay left the BJP in 2021 because he was dissatisfied with not receiving the assembly election ticket of his choice. Prior to his resignation as mayor of Kolkata in 2018, Mr. Chatterjee was regarded as the Bengal chief minister’s close aide.

In June of this year, he had previously met the Chief Minister in the state secretariat, or “Nabanna,” which sparked rumours about his potential return to TMC. He went to “Nabanna” with his friend Ms. Bandyopadhyay as well, but he evaded answering questions regarding his future political step by telling reporters he would follow “Mamata di’s directives” and that “There are no bad feelings.”

Mr. Chatterjee was chosen as a councillor in Kolkata Corporation in 1985. He has served as a TMC MLA four times. He won the 2010 mayoral election.
