All the apps offered by Salesforce sit on top of this platform.

We as Salesforce consumers have never have to worry about Database performance, Upgrades, Data Centre Maintenance, System Performance, Security while using Salesforce. Because 100s of brilliant minds are working on Salesforce internals doing the hard part for us resulting in Enterprise Level Trust among the consumers.
