Jaduvpur University

After Jadavpur University performs independent counselling beginning on November 23 to fill its own 200+ vacant BTech seats, Calcutta University will hold the second phase of counselling to fill the BTech seats that become vacant.

According to a CU official, openings will occur as JU manages to lure certain first-year BTech students away from its local competitor.

After centralised counselling by the JEE board left 55 of the 252 BTech seats empty, CU held the first phase of its independent counselling on Thursday and Friday.

Even though the seats were full, a CU official predicted that after Jadavpur began its four-day decentralised counselling on November 23, many of the enrolled students would transfer to JU.

According to the source, CU will hold its second round of counselling during the second week of December.

Seats were still available in fields like computer science and engineering, electronics and communication engineering, among others, thus counselling was held on the CU technology campus in Salt Lake City.

“According to information we’ve obtained, more than 200 positions at JU are now open as enrolled students transfer to the NITs and IITs. In terms of state JEE rankings, students prioritise JU over CU. Therefore, some CU students will transfer when JU begins its own counselling, according to a CU administrator.

Since many students migrated to central academic institutions as well, seats at CU became vacant.

To gauge how many of the BTech course’s enrolled students might withdraw, JU posted a withdrawal form on its website in early November.

The workout will continue through November 20.

Many teachers are concerned about the growing number of openings at JU and CU, where tuition is significantly cheaper than at other institutions.
