The TMC leadership strongly objected to the clip as soon as it entered the public domain and immediately instituted disciplinary action.
According to TMC sources, Abhishek Banerjee, the party’s national general secretary, requested the chairman step down from his position; disciplinary action will be taken against him later. However, the BJP criticised the TMC for “shielding the culprit” by calling for his resignation. “We must take legal action against him. If he escapes punishment for his actions, what good is it to ask him to resign? By requesting him to resign, the TMC is attempting to cover up his crime, claimed BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar.
