On October 18, 2021, the state government released the request for proposals for the ‘Design, Build, Operate and Transfer Model’ development of the Tajpur Port. On Wednesday, the West Bengal government gave Adani Ports the Letter of Intent (LoI) for Tajpur Port.
According to officials, the project will cost $25,000 crore to complete and will generate about a lakh direct and indirect jobs. West Bengal’s chief minister Mamata Banerjee gave the letter of intent to Karan Adani, CEO of Adani Ports.
According to a government announcement, Karan Adani got the letter of intent during the Bijaya Sammilani. The port, which is around 170 kilometers southeast of Kolkata, would accept capsize vessels (the biggest dry cargo ships) with a deadweight tonnage of one lakh.
“This greenfield deep sea port is anticipated to usher in a new era of growth in the state as it will give industries situated in Bengal speedier access to global markets. It would also be connected to the state-developed industrial and economic corridor from Dankuni, a senior official added.
