Assam: Drunk driver rams car into bike, two injured

Dibrugarh: Two persons were seriously injured in a major road accident on Saturday night after a Chevrolet Sail car(AS06R 8134) rammed his car into a bike and cars parked in HS. road area in Dibrugarh.

According to police, the Chevrolet Sail car coming from the Khemka Market direction hit some vehicles parked near ICICI Bank on H.S. Road. The vehicle also said to be hit another scooty coming from the opposite direction.

According to information, the scooty rider, Prashanta Konwar and the person said to be driving the car, Homenjyoti Buragohain seriously injured in the accident. The scooty rider is rushed to AMCH while the person driving the car admitted at the Brahmaputra Diagnostic.

As per sources, Homenjyoti Buragohain was under the influence of alcohol and he was driving the car. He hit the vehicles parked in the H.S. road area.

According to information, Homenjyoti Buragohain hails from Demow area and he has visited Dibrugarh yesterday due to some personnel reason. Sources added he comes out from a Bar cum resturant, situated at H.S. road.

The incident happened at around 12.30 pm. As per police, the family members of Prashanta Konwar are going to lodge a complaint against the accused. Police sources said that there were four persons in the accused car.

Four parked cars bearing registration numbers: Baleno (AS06AH 5301), Seltos (AS01FD 0371), Seltos (AS06AD 8199)and Maruti (800 AS06C 5756)and the Activa scooty no. (AS06AJ 0548)badly damaged in the incident.

“Alcohol is the major cause of accident. It has been found that most of the recent accident which occured in Dibrugarh recently. Most of the car drivers were consuming alcohol,” said a police official.

He said, “We are investigating the matter. Right now can’t say anything. We are checking every things. If the person found under the influence of alcohol when the accident happened, we will take strict action against him under law,”.
