Arunachal: Worang festival celebrated at Lazu near Indo-Myanmar border

GUWAHATI, FEB 12: The 12th OllO Woraang Juku of the Ollos of Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district was celebrated on Sunday at Lazu bordering Myanmar with great enthusiasm and gaiety.

While addressing the huge gathering of festival revelers, Namsai MLA and State BJP General Secretary Chow Jingnu Namchoom, who was the chief guest of the occasion extended his Woraang greetings to the people of Ollo community and said that festivals fostered love, peace, happiness and joy.

Namchoom passionately appealed to the people to preserve their rich legacies handed down to them by their ancestors.

And insisted on women empowerment for all round development. While responding to public memorandum Namchoom announced for one Pang, Male dormitory for Laju.

Speaking as guest of honour Tirap DC Hento Karga urged the people to preserve their rich traditional culture for posterity. Taking the advantage of mammoth gathering the DC cum Guest of honour appealed the villagers to shun opium cultivation and addiction, as opium /Kaani ruins the future of the Ollo community he added that opium cultivation which is illegal should be replaced by cash crops under central/state sponsored flagship programs and asked the stakeholders to engage in agriculture, horticulture and veterinary activities for sustainable and permanent economic stability.

The DC urged all to maintain health and hygiene to avoid spreading waterborne diseases like diarrhoea and dysentery.

The chief guest and the guest of honour also witnessed the rituals performed at the makeshift Paang. The Chief guest said that culture and religion were two different entities and must not be allowed to clash. He further said that no celebration would surpass Worang for the Ollos in terms of importance, grandeur and significance.

Earlier, in his welcome speech President of the 12th Worang Juku committee, 2023 Rangmo Ranto highlighted the significance of Worang festival and mythology.

He thanked the Chief guest and Guest of honor for their gracious presence despite their busy scheduled. Rangmo Ranto, ZPM Laju, President Worang festival committee welcomed all the dignitaries.

Colourful folk dances performer by the dancers from various villages of Ollo community and community feast marked the day-long celebrations.

Nabam Kojum, Special Guest stressed on preservation of age old culture and tradition of the Ollo community.

The day long celebration concluded with vote of thanks from general Secretary 12th OWJC, 2023 Thokwang Ngongpadong.

And the day long event culminated by the presence of Nabam Kojum as Chief Guest for the extravaganza cultural evening.
