Guwahati: Amid assertions from Bharatiya Janata party ( BJP ) led Assam government that there is no place for crime and criminals; the body of a young woman was found on Thursday evening in a box in a locked rented room; Love Jihad or Love triangle suspected.
Amid the news flashing in the air from across the state about different heinous crimes against women including rape, public assault and others, the Guwahati incident has horrified the women all over Assam.
As per beginning reports from our different sources, the body of a young woman was recovered from Lalung Gaon of Lokhra area on Thursday evening inside a box in a rented room. The cause behind the murder was suspected Love Jihad or a Love triangle .
The woman whose murder is yet to be asserted whether it was a lynching, strangulation or stabbing; has been identified as Bakhanti Baishya .
The reports say that husband of the deceased is still absconding with their children which increasing the suspicion of a Love Jihad or Love triangle murder .
Or it may be a gang rape also; only postmortem report can reveal the truth and all other facts associated with it.
The family had reportedly moved into the rented house before a week.
“We received information about a dead body of a woman inside a rented house at around 4 p.m. based on foul smell by neighbors. Further investigation is on,” a police official said.
Months ago one Asmina Khatun was also found dead in a mysterious circumstances in north Guwahati. Time to time reports of crime against women including rape, murder, physical assault, domestic violence come into light from capital Guwahati and other parts of the state .
Recently a court in upper Assam Dibrugarh district convicted a person in a sensational murder of a medical girl student Sarita Tashniwal . Her throat was cut by a surgical knife while she was attending her duty on wee hours nine year ago in Assam Medical College and hospital located in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
Ridiculously, last month Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that the crime rate against women has come down by 41 percent and there is no place for crime and criminals in Assam. The newly appointed DGP G.P.Singh also stated the same after assuming the post .
Earlier in 2022 ,as per the 69 th edition of the National Crime Records Bureau report for the year 2021, Assam recorded highest number of cases of crime against women for the fifth time in a row.
The released data titled- Crime in India 2021 report shows that the rate of crime against women in Assam was 168.3 ; higher than the national rate of 64.5 . Delhi came second with 147.6 , while Odisha came third with 137.8.
In 2017 ,the rate of crime against women in Assam was 143.3,it was 166in 2018 ,177 in 2019 and a subsequent dip in 2020 with 154.3.
In 2020 , Assam recorded 26 instances of rape cum murder,gang rape, the third highest figure in the country after Uttar Pradesh ( 31 ) and Madhya Pradesh ( 27 ) .It recorded 1,658 cases of rape last year .There were 4,642cases of assault with the intention of outraging of modesty.
Witnessing a jump in cases of crime against women in 2021 ,Assam registered 29,046 cases with 52.9 percent of the charge sheeting rate .
“Nowhere the women are safe . Neither at home nor at public places. The government must assure the overall safety and security of women and girl child across Assam. Education, job for females and prompt actions by police and court on the complaint launched by women can make them safe,” Sunita Sharma, president, Progressive Women Empowerment Group of capital Guwahati told Our India.
