Assam: Dibrugarh administration gears up to celebrate Dibrugarh district day

GUWAHATI, SEP 22: Dibrugarh district day will be celebrated from September 30 to October 2 with great enthusiasm.

Talking to reporters in Dibrugarh,  Deputy Comissioner Biswajit Pegu said, “For three days, we will celebrate Dibrugarh district day. On October 2, 1971 Dibrugarh was carved out from Lakhimpur. A cultural rally will be take out in  the opening day of the programme. We appeal everyone to participate in the programme for its success.”

“An exhibition related Dibrugarh’s history will be showcase in the three days programme. A cultural show will be held in the three days extravagance. Traditional sports and cycle rally will be held during the programme,” DC informed.

Pegu said, “Dog show will be the main attraction of the three days extravagance. The dog show will be held at Chowkidinghee field. A souvenir on the rich history of Dibrugarh will be release during the programme.”

“We have requested the Tea Association, ABITA to exhibit the rich history of tea by giving stalls and exhibition. We are very much excited about the three days programme,” Pegu stated.

He said, “An audio-visual on Dibrugarh past history will be shown during the programme. We have aslo appeal Railways to help us during the three day programme.”

Dibrugarh is also known as the ‘Tea city of India’ because of its tea gardens.

Dibrugarh derived its name from Dibarumukh(as a renowned encampment of Ahoms during the Ahom Chutiya war).
